This Week in IT News #9 (09-30-09)

Here is another week with Apple heavy in the news. Whether it’s negative or positive, the press is all over them. Anyway, here’s what’s been going on this week.

Dropbox Hits Two Million users
I’ve been using Dropbox for quite some time. My only complaint has been it’s lack of direct KDE support, but that’s easy to work around anyways. Dropbox is pretty cool, and I use it to sync my creative writing projects. Good job Dropbox!

Google Sends Cease & Desist Letter to CyanogenMod
Apparently the CyanogenMod is very popular, although I’ve never gotten a chance to use it. Google sent a cease and desist letter to its creator, which is very strange considering the usual open nature of Google. It is true that Google has every right to do this, but doing that really tarnishes their reputation. Meanwhile…

CyanogenMod Creator Outmaneuvers Google
…The creator apparently has a work around that will allow this mod to continue to be distributed. My, how the plot thickens.

Apple Forces (Yet Another) Update
Finally, the aforementioned Apple news that’s been floating all over the web. Apparently one of Apple’s updates installs something “extra” that may open up your PC. Nice.
