Microsoft To Cut 5,000 Jobs

It looks like the rumors were true. As stated in this press release, it looks like Microsoft isn’t doing to well. 5,000 jobs will be cut over the course of 18 months. 1,400 of those pink slips will be handed out immediately.

Microsoft states that they are not immune to the effects of economy, one really has to wonder why they are blaming the economy for their hardship. PC Sales declining wouldn’t have effected them if people actually bought copies of Windows Vista for their existing machines, or if their existing machines could even run Vista in the first place. Microsoft is a software company, not a hardware company. If their software was decent, many would have bought it. Discounting the sales of Vista on new PC’s, Vista was a flop.

Either Microsoft should learn their lesson, or this is the beginning of the end for them. I’m not biased against Microsoft, but it’s hard to ignore the many mistakes they have made lately. They will probably overcome this situation, but there is also a chance that they may not.

I’ll post more news here as I see it.
